Face Brushes: Foundation & Concealer

For foundation application, the original pink Beautyblender sponge reigns supreme. While other colors and brands offer similar options, the classic pink one delivers the best blend and finish for my skin. It provides a flawless, natural look that I haven't been able to replicate with other sponges.

The Crown C490 double-ended brush is a versatile tool. I use one side for applying primer and moisturizer, while the other flawlessly blends foundation for a sheer-to-medium coverage that's easily buildable. Its softness and efficiency make it an essential in my kit.

The Crown C517 brush is another multi-tasker. I use it for foundation, concealer, and blending cream contour products. Its soft bristles haven't shed, and the size is perfect for reaching under the eyes and precisely contouring the face for a well-defined look.

Blending & Setting Brushes

The IT Cosmetics #7 brush is incredibly versatile, suitable for buffing foundation, applying concealer, cream bronzer, contour, and even setting powder. Its softness and multi-purpose design make it a true standout in my collection.

The Real Techniques setting brush is initially used for highlighter but has become my go-to for setting the undereye area and eyelids with powder. Its size perfectly fits the eyelid and its synthetic bristles excel at applying cream products.

Another Real Techniques favorite is their blush brush (used for bronzer). I find it unparalleled for bronzing, flawlessly applying color without streaks. The brush's design ensures even application across the face and neck.

Contouring & Blush Brushes

The Smith 112 brush excels at bronzing, contouring, and blush application. Its mid-size makes it versatile for various techniques. I even use it occasionally to set under-eye concealer for a polished look.

The MAC 168 brush is a personal favorite for blush, its worn-out condition showcasing extensive use. This brush, initially used for contouring and highlighting, remains my go-to for blush application because of its perfect size and application.

The MAC 109 is a fantastic contour brush—dense and small, perfect for precise contouring, even intense blush application. The NARS EA brush provides incredible precision, ideal for chiseling out jawlines. However, it requires blending to avoid harsh lines.

Eyeshadow Brushes

The Sigma F35 tapered highlighter brush is my favorite for highlighting cheekbones, though I previously used it for under-eye setting. For years, this versatile brush performed double-duty, adapting seamlessly to my evolving makeup needs.

My top three eyeshadow brushes are: the Smith 232, Crown C511 (a Sigma E25 dupe), and Smith 247. These three brushes are essential for effortlessly blending and creating any eyeshadow look. The Smith 232 is large and fluffy, perfect for all-over color and crease work; Crown C511 is a staple crease brush; and Smith 247 is a smaller, more precise crease brush for defining.

The Smith 235 is ideal for cut creases, offering precise definition of the crease. The Makeup Forever 242 brush is exceptionally soft and useful for smoothing out eyeshadow after application, creating a flawless finish. It's unique in its function and overall feel.

Other Essential Brushes

For packing on eyeshadow color, the MAC 239 and 242 are my go-to brushes. The 239 works well with various eyeshadow types, while the 242 is perfect for metallic shadows, especially when used with setting spray.

The Crown C527 is a smaller pencil brush used precisely for the inner corner of the eye. The Sigma E15 flat definer brush is excellent for the lower lash line and creating a sharp eyeliner flick. The Sigma E10 is my preferred eyeliner brush, with the perfect length and softness.
