Brushes I Didn't Love: Stiffness Issues

The rounded blush brush, while aesthetically pleasing with its small domed head, proved too stiff for comfortable application. Blending blush felt difficult and resulted in uneven color payoff. The stiffness hindered the smooth application I prefer in a blush brush. It lacked the necessary give for a seamless finish.

Similarly, the angled contour brush suffered from excessive stiffness. While usable for contouring, the lack of flexibility made precise application challenging. A softer brush would have provided better control and a more natural-looking contour. The firmness made blending difficult and less forgiving.

Face Brushes: A Standout Performer

The face buffer brush was a complete game-changer. Its ideal density and softness made applying powder foundation a breeze. The brush provided the perfect amount of give, ensuring a flawless application without feeling harsh on the skin. It also proved versatile, effectively applying both powder and cream products.

The foundation stippling brush (both angled and flat versions) efficiently applied liquid foundation. The angled version, in particular, excelled at reaching hard-to-access areas around the nose and eyes. While both served a similar purpose, the angled brush was slightly more practical.

Highlighter Brush and Eye Brushes: A Mixed Bag

The highlighter brush was a winner, its soft bristles ideal for precise highlighting. The gentle application prevented harsh lines, creating a natural, radiant glow. The brush's soft texture made it comfortable and enjoyable to use.

In contrast, the stiff dome eye brush disappointed due to its firmness. A softer brush would have made blending easier and more natural. The angled blending brush, while usable, didn’t meet my expectations for blending, particularly compared to my Wayne Goss brushes. The soft dome brush, however, was exceptionally soft and made for easy blending.

Eye Brushes: Favorites and Standouts

The smoky eye brush, despite its firmness, was surprisingly soft and velvety. It blended outer corner seamlessly. The crease brush and small crease brush also impressed with their softness and precision for detailed blending in the crease.

The pencil brush made precise eyeliner application a breeze. The angled brush was easy to control and provided a sharp, defined line. The bent eyeliner brush stood out, delivering superior performance to other brands I own thanks to its denser packing and better product pickup.

Overall Conclusion: Worth the Investment?

Makeup Geek brushes offer a mix of hits and misses. While several brushes, like the face buffer brush, highlighter brush, and the various eye brushes, impressed with their quality and performance, some were let down by excessive stiffness. The price point is generally affordable, making them a budget-friendly option for building a collection.

Ultimately, the value depends on your needs and preferences. If you prioritize softness and flexibility, carefully consider the brushes mentioned as too stiff. However, the standout brushes are well worth the investment for their performance and affordability.
